Exoticamp Becomes the First Travel Startup to Be Featured on Startup Singam
The outdoor travel platform shares its journey of building trust in camping, securing investment and taking curated outdoor experiences to more travellers across India.
Exoticamp has become the first travel startup to be featured on Startup Singam, the popular entrepreneurship reality show aired on Star Vijay and JioHotstar.
The company’s journey was showcased in Episode 24, marking an important milestone for Exoticamp and the growing outdoor travel category in India. During the show, Exoticamp presented its vision, business model and plans for the future, and successfully secured funding.
For the team, the achievement represents much more than appearing on national television.
When Exoticamp began, camping was still unfamiliar to many Indian travellers. While people were interested in spending time outdoors, they also had genuine concerns about safety, washrooms, food, comfort and whether such experiences were suitable for families and women travellers.
Exoticamp was therefore not simply building another travel company. It was working to make people trust camping as a real and reliable holiday category.
From a Simple Question to a Growing Outdoor Travel Platform
Exoticamp started with a simple question:
Why should camping in India feel unsafe, confusing or difficult?
In the early days, the founders personally visited campsites, met local hosts, checked facilities, planned routes, handled customer enquiries and solved operational challenges on the ground.
The journey involved unpredictable weather, last-minute cancellations, customer concerns and the challenge of introducing a relatively new form of travel to the Indian market.
But every time a first-time traveller returned and said, “I didn’t know camping could be like this,” the team knew it was building something meaningful.
Over time, one campsite became a growing network of more than 250 campsites and outdoor experiences across India. Exoticamp began helping families, solo travellers, women travellers, corporate teams, schools and young explorers experience the outdoors in a safer, more comfortable and organized manner.
The company was also recognised and awarded by the Government of Tamil Nadu, further validating its efforts to build and organise the outdoor travel ecosystem.
Building Trust in a Fragmented Market
India has thousands of scenic outdoor stays, local hosts and lesser-known experiences waiting to be discovered. However, the market continues to remain fragmented and difficult for customers to evaluate and trust.
Information about properties, facilities, safety, accessibility and suitability is often inconsistent or unavailable. This becomes an even larger concern for first-time outdoor travellers.
Exoticamp is addressing this gap by building a trusted outdoor travel platform where customers can discover and book verified campsites, social group trips and private nature getaways with greater confidence.
The company’s vision extends beyond camping alone. Exoticamp aims to organise the broader outdoor travel category and make nature-based travel easier to discover, safer to book and more dependable to experience.
A Milestone That Fuels the Next Chapter
Securing funding on Startup Singam provides Exoticamp with additional resources to strengthen its supply network, improve customer experiences, build better technology and expand curated outdoor travel experiences to more parts of India.
The funding will support the company’s efforts to:
- Onboard and verify more campsites and outdoor experiences.
- Improve booking and customer-support systems.
- Build stronger technology for travellers and campsite partners.
- Standardize the quality and reliability of outdoor travel experiences.
- Expand social group trips and private nature getaways across India.
- Make outdoor travel more accessible to first-time travellers, families, women travellers, schools and corporate teams.
For Exoticamp, the television feature and funding are not the conclusion of its journey. They represent the beginning of a larger chapter.
“This milestone is not where the story ends. It is where the next chapter begins. Our goal is to build India’s most trusted outdoor travel platform and help more people experience the outdoors safely and comfortably.”
The company credits its progress to the customers who trusted a new category, campsite partners who supported its vision, team members who handled challenges on the ground, and the investors, mentors, families and well-wishers who believed in the journey.
From carrying tents and convincing people to try camping to building a nationwide outdoor travel platform and presenting its vision on national television, Exoticamp has come a long way.
There is still much more to build. But this is one milestone the team will always remember.
Exoticamp’s journey was featured in Episode 24 of Startup Singam on Star Vijay and JioHotstar.
