About the campsite
Valley of Flowers is a fairyland situated high in the Himalayas of the Uttarakhand, at an altitude of 3,600 meters above sea level, protected by snowy mountains. Unknown to humans, for centuries this enchanting valley lay frozen during the colder months, and burst into its youthful beauty every year, as the snow melted with the advent of summer. Every year, the valley was splashed with color as it bloomed with hundreds of kinds of flowers, taking on various shades of colors as months progressed. Finally, one day, nature condescended to bless humans with this heavenly sight, when Frank Smith - mountaineer, explorer, and botanist - chanced upon it in the monsoon of 1931.

The Valley of Flowers National Park lies in the northern part of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. This national park shares borders with Nepal and Tibet. During the monsoon season, this magnificent valley comes alive with more than 300 varieties of Alpine flowers and the entire valley blooms with a carpet of flowers in multiple colors. The snow-capped peaks provide a perfect backdrop for this natural wonder. The park is situated at a height of 3,600 meters (11,811.0 ft) above sea level, and spreads around 87.5 square kilometers. It was declared a national park in 1982, and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Provided you are fit and don't mind an arduous trek, this is a site worth seeing.

The valley is home to many celebrated flowers like the Brahmakamal, the Blue Poppy and the Cobra Lily. It is a much sought-after haunt for flower lovers, botanists and of course trekkers, for whom a sufficient excuse to embark on a mission to reach a place, is that it exists! Legends associate the valley with the area from where Hanuman of Ramayana collected. 'Sanjeevani' herbs to revive Lakshmana, the younger brother of Rama. Hanuman had to visit far-flung areas in his search for the life-saving herbs, some named after him. The Valley of Flowers National Park, when in full bloom would have made even Wordsworth settle here! Waves after waves of the most beautiful flowers adorn the Valley for a very brief period during the summer, after which it goes back to oblivion, only to be seen next summer!

When in flower, the Valley is not to be missed! And in that captivating, mist-covered valley bounded by the mighty Himalayan mountains on all sides, roam some of the most elusive creatures found in India. The Snow Leopard, the Himalayan Black Bear, Serow, and the Himalayan Golden Eagle are all found in and around the valley! It could well get lucky for you! We also visit the enchanting Hemkund sahib, Badrinath and the gorgeous hill resort of Auli. Come with us on this authentic Himalayan camp of ours which is well and truly, beyond wild!
